Der Fachbereich 9 (Philologie) der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster bietet zum 1. Oktober 2018 ein strukturiertes Promotionsprogramm im Bereich der Literaturwissenschaft an. Im Rahmen der Graduate School Practices of Literature (GSPoL) wird exzellenten Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen die Möglichkeit geboten, innerhalb von drei Jahren zu promovieren. Die Absolvent/innen werden sowohl auf wissenschaftliche Karrieren als auch auf außerakademische Berufsfelder vorbereitet.

The Chair in German-Canadian Studies at the University of Winnipeg invites qualified candidates to apply for the one-year Postdoctoral Fellow position in History with a focus on German-Canadian migration or Canadian-German relations

Applicants may have completed doctoral research on any aspect of Canadian history, German history, or any other national history, or transnational history with any focus such as gender, class, race, environment, economics, law, empire, etc. Applicants are expected to develop a self-generated program of research that explores a German-Canadian aspect of their doctoral work. Alternatively, applicants way wish to begin a new research project that focuses on the German-Canadian perspective of a broader issue (refugee history, business history, international relations, etc.). Previous research in German-Canadian Studies is not a requirement. The Postdoctoral Fellow position in History with a focus on German-Canadian migration or Canadian-German relations is made possible by a generous donation from the Spletzer Family Foundation.

The Postdoctoral Fellow position is open to scholars at an early stage of their academic careers (within ten years of completing their Ph.D.). The position is open to international applicants.

Position Start: 1 July 2019 or 1 August 2019.

The Wilson Institute for Canadian History at McMaster University is proud to, once again, award the $1,000 Viv Nelles Essay Prize. This prize is awarded to the graduate student term paper that best places Canada in a transnational framework.

The winner of the 2016 $1,000 Viv Nelles Essay Prize was Alexandra Montgomery, a PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania for a wonderful paper titled “Philadelphia’s Plantations: The Great Nova Scotian Land Boom and Reimagining the British Empire Between the Wars, 1763-1775.” To be considered for the award, a paper must be nominated by a graduate student or his/her instructor and submitted electronically, to the institute, no later than 30 January 2018. The winner will be selected by the Institute’s Director, in consultation with Wilson fellows and associates. Each winner will receive a $1,000 award. A plaque with their name engraved commemorating the achievement will also be displayed at the Wilson Institute.  We will present the award in Spring 2018 at the annual meeting of the Canadian Historical Association in Regina. //

L’Institut Wilson d’histoire canadienne à l’université McMaster est fier de décerner, encore une fois, le Prix de l’essai Viv Nelles de $1,000. Ce prix est décerné à l’étudiant(e) qui produit le meilleur travail de recherche plaçant le Canada dans un contexte transnational écrit dans le cadre d’un cours de niveau diplômé.

La gagnante du prix pour l’année 2016 était Alexandra Montgomery, qui a produit une superbe recherche intitulée « Philadelphia’s Plantations: The Great Nova Scotian Land Boom and Reimagining the British Empire Between the Wars, 1763-1775. » Pour être considéré pour ce prix, tous travaux nommés par un(e) étudiant(e) ou son instructeur(e) doivent être soumis, par courriel, à l’institut, au plus tard le 30 Janvier 2018. Le gagnant sera sélectionné par le directeur de l’institut, en consultation avec ses boursiers et associés. Le gagnant recevra une récompense financière de $1,000. Son nom sera également gravé sur une plaque commémorative qui sera affichée à l’Institut Wilson. Ce prix sera décerné au printemps 2018 lors du congres annuel de la Société historique du Canada à Regina.

Three awards worth $2500 each are intended to provide financial support for researchers from outside Québec who want to do research in one or more Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) buildings to consult documents of a heritage nature. During their visit to BAnQ, they conduct research on an aspect or on a component of the archival fonds and heritage collections of the institution. The BAnQ research visit last a minimum of 20 days and a maximum of 120 days.
